- An unusual book by a great teacher.
- By Ben Smith. Former student. Editor-in-Chief, BuzzFeed.
Max McClintock was one of the best teachers I ever had; she had the possibly unenviable task of teaching 10th graders European History, and managed to make both the narrative and the big ideas penetrate our thick skulls. I’d never considered, of course, that along with being a serious historian she had given an enormous amount of thought to teaching, and that’s what comes through in this epistolary novel — a sense of oneself in the eyes of a great teacher. There’s a lot to learn here.
